Automation firms sign up for IMHX
A number of top automated system suppliers have booked stands at the next International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX) in 2010, underlining the show’s position as the UK’s leading comprehensive industry event.
Says Event Director, Rob Fisher, “We’re delighted that leading automated solution providers Dematic, Knapp, SDI Group, SSI Schaefer, E & K Automation, Kasto, Industore and PSB have confirmed they will exhibit and we are in advanced negotiations with several other key automation firms.”
When IMHX was launched back in 2001 as a joint venture between the organisers (then, Turret RAI) and the British Industrial Truck Association, there was naturally some suspicion among automated system suppliers that the show would be first and foremost a fork-lift exhibition. In fact, it was a storming success – the UK’s largest B2B show ever at that time – and the automated handling companies soon wanted part of the action. Many of the automated system suppliers at the 2010 show are exhibiting for the third successive time. Comments David James, Managing Director of Knapp UK Ltd, “Taking place only once every three years, IMHX has to be a key consideration in our marketing plans. It is undoubtedly the biggest UK materials handling show, in terms of footfall and exposure.” Adds Phil Makowski, Marketing Manager for Dematic, “Exhibitions are a vital part of our marketing programme, providing Dematic with an opportunity to demonstrate new solutions and technologies that have proved very successful in delivering logistics results for our customers in terms of productivity, accuracy and increased business flexibility. Events such as IMHX are the ideal opportunity for us to showcase them to a wider audience.” Bob Jane, Business Development Manager (Systems Group) for SSI Schaefer agrees that participation at IMHX is invaluable: “The show allows us to achieve a number of sales and marketing objectives at once – direct sales, database-building, corporate hospitality, market research, brand awareness and product demonstration.”
Other recent exhibitors to sign up for IMHX 2010 include Crown, Still Material Handling, Norco TBM, Ban-Air, ICEM, Ravas, Eblo Seating, Rehig Pacific and Big Ass Fans. Despite the gloomy economic climate, the show is enjoying an enviable sales position, with over 70% of floor space sold, over a year before the doors open.
Further good news for organisers Quartz came recently when the exhibition was revealed as one of the UK’s top 10 largest trade shows (Association of Event Organisers, 2007). Quartz was also buoyed by the results of a survey of over 750 visitors to IMHX 2007. When asked ‘How likely are you to make a purchasing decision from attending the event?’, a pleasing 22% replied ‘extremely likely’ and a further 28% said ‘likely’. In response to the question ‘How likely are you to attend IMHX 2010?’, over 40% said they would ‘definitely attend’ and a further 30% said they were ‘likely to attend’.
Over 90 exhibitors from the show’s early-booking Premier Exhibitor Club –who enjoy key benefits including access to the VIP parking scheme, designated inner zone parking, access to the VIP lounge and preferential marketing opportunities – attended an exhibitor briefing at the NEC in October last year, followed by a complimentary lunch. After hearing about the show’s success in 2007, the marketing and publicity plans for the 2010 event were outlined. Exhibitors learned that, as well as a traditional advertising campaign, visitors will be attracted to the show via direct mail, e-casts, telemarketing and SMS messaging.
Taking place from 2-5 March 2010 at the NEC in Birmingham, IMHX will showcase thousands of products and services across its 45,000m2 footprint, under the slogan ‘Inspiring Materials Handling eXcellence’. The event will feature not only materials handling equipment but also health & safety systems, software solutions, racking & shelving, storage systems, pallets & palletising, property, recruitment & training, third party logistics, transport & distribution, flooring, packaging, handling system design, financial services and warehousing.
For further information on exhibiting at IMHX 2010, contact Rob Fisher on 01895 454600
